JANUARY 18-22, 2106

This week we are going to be working with the letter Nn. The vocabulary that we are going to be focusing on is the following: nest, nine, necklace, nose, newspaper, nurse, nail, nut, needle, numbers.

We are going to be learning about ''Nocturnal Animals''

The students will become comfortable with this terms and will learn their meanings:
  • Nocturnal animal: an animal that is most active during the night
  • Diurnal animal: an animal that is most active during the daylight
  • Adaptation: a special feature or characteristic possessed by a living thing that helps it survive in its environment
To help students connect with these terms, we will talk with the class about their parents' jobs. We will have a  discussion to make the point that there are a variety of occupations requiring people to work at various times of the day or night. Explain them that in nature, an animal that is mainly active during the daylight hours is a diurnal animal. An animal that is most active during the night is nocturnal. We will list some of the differences between diurnal and nocturnal lifestyles of animals

Some of the stories that we will be reading this week are:

''THE NAPPING HOUSE''

The Napping House is a delightful cumulative tale that has become a classic  favorite. One rainy afternoon, a Granny is snoring on the bed in a cozy room.  A child crawls on top of her and starts dreaming.  Gradually, the pile begins to increase with other characters, such as a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse, and a wakeful flea, as each one gets their own creative way to awaken the next.  This wild sequence, that’s initiated by the flea biting the mouse, sets off a chain of events which results in a broken pile and even a broken bed.

RHYME OF THE WEEK:

In Math we are going to study ''positional words''.
  • Children will learn to recognize objects and items that have a specific position in relation to other items, they will be exposed to words that show theposition of an object or item, they will be exposed to words that show thedirection of an object or item and they will learn to use positional and directional words to tell how to move an object or item.

THEME:

The students will be able to name some of the different types of helpers there are in their community. The students will also be able to understand how the different helpers benefit or help the community.

Last Friday, the children took the Report Cards home. Please make sure you sign the envelope and send it back to us as soon as possible.
